.hello-world
What is this?
This is my very first post on my self-hosted blog! I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but never had the time or energy or motivation to. With personal websites making a resurgence over the last few months, it gave me an excuse to finally do it.
What this isn’t
This is not my first blog post ever. I have been writing on Hashnode for the last couple years, just to get in the habit of writing. Here’s some of my most prominent posts:
- Better scrolling with modern CSS
- The case for using Sass in 2022
- Astro just makes sense
- Is CSS-in-JS actually bad?
I initially chose Hashnode because it gave me a low-friction writing environment, a sizeable audience, and the ability to bring my own domain. I won’t get into the details of why I’m moving away from Hashnode, but suffice to say that it’s… problematic. Plus I’ve outgrown the need for it and decided that a fully custom workflow makes more sense.
I don’t think I will be moving over my old blog posts, but there will be no new ones published over there.
What’s next
This whole thing is pretty barebones right now and very much a work-in-progress. My goal is to eventually have interactive blog posts and a full-fledged personal website where I can host all kinds of nonsense.
There is so much that still needs to be done that I could have easily delayed this post by another few months. Truth is, I had to rush this one out to unblock the way for a spicy blog post. Stay tuned
